- Introduction
Spellwell Software provides 'Learning Activities' computer packages to assist individuals with dyslexia or other spelling and numerical difficulties.
There are currently 4 packages available covering:
  • Short Vowel Sounds
  • Long Vowel Sounds
  • Key Words
  • Numbers.
    • A Management System is included for keeping a history of each individual's progress with the various activities.
    More details can be found by selecting an item from the 'Contents' on the left, or click on one of the other packages to see details about it.

      - PC Requirements
    The software is designed for PCs running Windows™ 3.1, 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP or NT.
    Each package is supplied uncompressed on a 1.4-mb floppy disk. You can install on a hard drive or run directly from disk, which is ideal for consultants using different PCs.
    The packages use only 16 colours and do not require audio or video features. There are limited sound effects within the Numbers package but they are not essential.
    You must have a mouse, or other pointing device, as this is used to perform all the activities. The keyboard is never used.
    You need a printer supporting 'down loaded' fonts to print worksheets and scores.
    If a PC can run Windows™, then it should have sufficient power for this software.

      - About the Packages
    The packages are designed to support a structured learning programme but are also suitable for practice at home or in an educational environment.
    You can choose the colours you find best for the activities. To support this, nearly all images are silhouettes using the chosen colours.
    You can choose from a script, 2 cursive, a serif and a sans-serif font.
    You can print worksheets for the word activities and for some number activities.
    All activities maintain scores and these can be printed on leaving an activity.
    You can skip or repeat exercises in an activity to suit individual needs and there is always an exit button visible to get out of an activity at any time.
    Incorrect spellings are never shown and, where possible, left to right tracking is forced.

      - Short Vowel Sounds
    Rhyming activities - matching images representing rhyming words.
    Visual memory activities using images and lowercase and uppercase letters.
    Alphabet activities covering order, lower and upper case matching, vowels and consonants, and 'b' and 'd' words.
    Consonant-vowel-consonant words using image and word activities.
    Final blends and other word-endings using image and word activities.
    Initial blends using image and word activities.
    Consonant digraphs using image and word activities.

      - Long Vowel Sounds
    Alphabet activities covering order and 'y' as a vowel as well as a consonant.
    Open and closed syllable activities and irregular words.
    Spelling choices covering {k} initial and final sounds and '_ce' and '_ss' words.
    Suffixes using the adding, doubling and dropping rules.
    Vowel-consonant-'e' words using image and word activities.
    Vowel digraphs using image and word activities.
    Vowel-consonant digraphs using image and word activities.

      - Key Words
    Covers what are considered to be the 200 most common words in groups of 10 words.
    Word Search.
    Spelling.
    Usage.
    Shape identification.

      - Numbers
    Numerical visual memory using shapes and numbers.
    Numerical order.
    Number matching with objects, dice and dominoes.
    Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
    Telephone numbers and telephone directories.
    Clocks, times and timetables.
    Shopping - prices and change.

      - Management System
    Allows names to be stored and, for stored names, allows individual identification when using 'Learning Activities'.
    For identified names, records by date the activities performed and the scores achieved.
    Allows looking up and printing of the recorded activities and scores by date or by activity for stored names.

      - Licences
    Licences are available for 1, 5 or 10 users.
    You may install the software on as many PCs as you are licensed for and at any one time you may run that number of versions, either from floppy disks or installed versions.
    You may print and freely distribute 'Spellwell Worksheets' but you must not offer them for sale in any way.
    You must not sell or give, free of charge, any copies of the software in any form either in its own or under another name.
    Spellwell Software takes no responsibility for any indirect damages or claims arising from using its software.

      - Download Trial
    The trial version contains samples of the four 'Learning Activities' packages and the Management System which enables you to record individual's scores.
    Click download 'Learning Activities' (346 kb) for the trial version, but see below if you want all the packages.
    If you want to download all three packages, click download all (893kb) to download all three at the same time and save download time.
    'Unzip' into a folder of your choice, then run 'SETUP.EXE' to create Start Menu Entries for Windows 95/98, or Program Icons for Windows 3.1. If it does not run you most probably do not have 'VBRUN300.DLL'.
    Click VBRUN300.DLL (225 kb) if you don't have it and 'unzip' it into the directory with the trial version or into '\WINDOWS' or '\WINDOWS\SYSTEM'.
